In 2019, the number of global social media users is expected to grow to over 2.7 billion. Yes, billion.

If you don’t have a social media presence for your blog, business, or website, what are you waiting for?

A social media presence is a great way to drive traffic to your website or blog or even your brick-and-mortar business. For example, did you know that 60% of Instagram users say they first learned about a product or service from a post by the company?

It’s almost a necessity in this day and age, particularly if your business is entirely online or you’re a blogger. Keep reading to learn how you can build a social network and presence.

How to Build a Social Network

Building a social network organically will take time. Using the suggestions below, you can start to build your network and drive traffic to your blog or business.

It’s important to stay up to date on the algorithms of the various platforms too. Facebook and Instagram often change how posts show up in the feeds and which ones you see first, so be sure you stay on top of that.

Before you get started, check out some of the do’s and don’ts of social media and make sure you’re sticking to them.

Create Your Profiles

If you don’t have social media profiles or haven’t logged in for months, get them up and running. Be consistent with your names and make sure they reflect your blog or business. If you can, use the same name on all social media platforms. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are the most used social media sites.

Once you’ve created your profiles, make sure to include a bio — especially if you’re a blogger. If you’re directing readers to your blog or business, remember to include that information and include a link to your site.

Build Social Media Links into Your Blog or Website

You should have easy links to follow you on your blog or website. Provide buttons that giver your visitors an easy way to follow you on all of your social media accounts. Don’t make them work for it.

For example, this blog has easy buttons at the bottom of the page to follow on all social media profiles and has buttons to share posts on Facebook or Twitter.

Provide Quality Content and Use Hashtags

To keep followers, you should provide quality content and provide it consistently. Don’t over-post, but don’t post so sporadically that people can’t remember who you are or what your business is when it pops up in their feed.

Use hashtags as well, as this will help you gain more followers. People searching for a certain hashtag might find themselves on your feed and if they like your content, you might have gained a new follower.

Follow and Interact with People

Following and interacting with other people on social media is important as many people will follow you back and stick around as followers if you answer questions or respond to comments. It’s a two-way street.

Go Live or Use Stories

If you’re a blogger, going live or posting stories on Instagram is a great way to show who you really are, provide an intro, or behind the scenes content. When you read a blog every day and then get to hear that bloggers actual voice, there’s a more personal connection.
